Robin Jolley started singing with the Melbourne group “Windy & Warm” whilst in his mid teens. Neville Kent discovered him and enticed him to come to Hobart where he got him off the ground as a solo singer. The next step was a record deal, in 1972 he returned to Melbourne in the search for one. Radio DJ Paul Konik introduced him to Brian Cadd which presented him with a song called “Marshall’s Portable Music Machine” which Brian had co-written with Don Mudie. Cadd and Konik produced the single and it was snapped up by Fable Records. Here for you are all Robin's Fable singles plus a few bonus recordings. Again thanks to Henry DeRooy for great art work. thnaks OZ appreciated
Many thanks ....
Great post Gary - "Marshall's Portable Music Machine" had a real catchy title and tune, so I'm keen to hear his other tracks.
Thanks for the share mate
I hear this song on Curtin FM, along with many other songs here.
Thanks for this one Ozzie..I have Robin's one & only solo Fable album, from where these singles come. But I'm actually intrigued by what the bonus tracks might be, eg the Windy And Warm single, and 3 he recorded post Fable.
They were "Hey Rev" which appeared on the B side of "Johnny Farnham's "For Christ's Sake Help The Kids" in 1975, a "Save the kids" type fundraiser.
His next single proper was "Baby, What's Been Getting To You" b/w a cover of Elvis "One Night", on the L & Y label, also in 1975.
And his final single "Midnight Woman" b/w "Rock 'N' Roll Star", another L & Y production, but on the Festival label, came out the following year, 1976. "Interestingly, the A sides of the last 2 were written by Marty Kristian, the former Aussie soloist who had had a couple of modest hits in the mid-late 60's & who at the time was enjoying huge international success with The New Seekers.
Midnight Woman did get some airplay & TV exposure, but the singles did not chart well, so after that in 1977 Robyn & former YTT member Rod Kirkham, replaced Phil Galotta in the hugely popular show band The Blue Echoes, after changing their name to the Echoes. But I don't think they recorded with that line-up..and Phil was back in 1979 anyway, when they did record again.
Anyway, after all that, might these be the bonus tracks mentioned Ozzie? ;-)
Got it in one Micko and thanks for the update :)
