Melbourne born Russell Morris remains one of the best performers to emerge from the Australia 1960’s scene. But In a career spanning over 30 years, he has been sadly under recorded with only eight albums to his credit. In 1968 Morris left Somebody’s Image for a solo career. Ian “Molly” Meldrum became Morris’s manager and together they transformed Johnny Young’s composition “The Real Thing” into the most astonishing pop productions of the entire 1960’s. In January 1971 the hard-rocking “Mr. America” reached number 9 and was Morris’s first song writing venture. It won him composer of the year in the TV Week Music Awards. I'd love a proper compilation of Russell's As and Bs singles. For such a popular, artist you'd think the record companies could make a big effort for collectors - instead of just re-doing G. Hits packages.
